Hauraki Goldfield

Coromandel Region

Building on a Legacy in the Coromandel

Home to the historic Broken Hills Mine near Tairua, the Hauraki Goldfield sits within a well-established epithermal gold district.

We are building on more than two decades of Rabone family legacy at Broken Hills as the project transitions into its next phase.

Project detail

New exploration in a historic goldfield

Broken Hills sits within the Hauraki Goldfield in the Waikato Region, one of New Zealand’s most prolific epithermal gold-silver districts. The existing mine is considered the shallow tip of a far more extensive vein system, with current workings hosted within rhyolitic caprocks above a large-scale epithermal vein system that extends into favourable andesitic volcanics identified beneath the mine.

The existing mine is considered the shallow tip of a far more extensive vein system, with current workings hosted within rhyolitic caprocks above a large-scale epithermal vein system that extends into favourable andesitic volcanics identified beneath the mine.

The project contains multiple quartz veins, stockworks and hydrothermal breccia zones, with several vein structures remaining unexplored beyond the historic mine workings. Limited drilling below the existing workings has recorded high-grade intercepts and the vein system remains largely untested along strike and at depth.

With most of the wider Hauraki Goldfield’s historic gold-silver production coming from veins hosted within andesite, the deeper environment beneath Broken Hills represents the most prospective area for future exploration.

Project findings

Findings

Broken Hills displays strong geological evidence for high-grade mineralisation, depth extension and significant untested potential within a well-defined epithermal vein system.
  • Historic underground development and sampling confirm multi-ounce gold values in banded quartz veins and bonanza-level grades in vent breccias, with some breccia zones returning assays above 300 g/t gold.
  • The single drillhole completed beneath the lowest workings returned several high-grade intercepts, including 1m at 35 g/t gold, 1m at 11 g/t gold and 1m at 6.5 g/t gold, confirming that mineralisation extends below the existing underground workings.
  • Altered andesitic volcanics intersected beneath the rhyolite host rocks align with regional evidence showing that the most productive deposits across the Hauraki Goldfield occur within andesite.
  • Large portions of the vein system remain unexplored along strike and at depth, indicating substantial upside for further discovery within one of New Zealand’s most prolific epithermal gold districts.

Current Operations

We are progressing Broken Hills toward the proposed drilling program. Current activity includes drill-site preparation, reviewing historical mine development and sampling data and refining priority targets across the vein system.

Environment

Sustainability in practice

Safe and Controlled Fieldwork

We follow strict water management and low-impact access protocols, operating under a no-discharge framework consistent with requirements for the area.

Low-Impact Exploration Methods

Our work builds on the Rabone family’s long-standing involvement in the area, with exploration progressing in line with local expectations and established regional practices.

Respect for Local Communities, Iwi and Mana Whenua

We maintain open communication with local stakeholders and regulatory bodies, providing clear updates as the project progresses.
